Jaipur, June 17 (IANS) Senior BJP leader Rajendra Rathore on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s Kota visit, describing it as a “comedy circus” and a politically motivated event rather than a genuine effort to address students’ concerns.
Rathore alleged that the Congress was attempting to turn a serious issue into a political spectacle.
“For the first time in the country’s history, pop singer performances are being organised in the name of paying tribute to deceased students. This Congress-sponsored programme is nothing but a flop show and a comedy circus,” he said.
He claimed that the Congress was using the tragic deaths of two students from Delhi and Dehradun, who reportedly died by suicide following the cancellation of the NEET examination, to stage a political event in Kota.
“It is unfortunate and shameful to convert an occasion meant for condolences and tribute into an entertainment programme,” Rathore said.
Drawing comparisons with the UPA era, Rathore said the number of institutions and seats in higher education, including AIIMS, engineering colleges and medical colleges, had increased significantly over the years under the current dispensation.
He also accused the previous Congress government in Rajasthan of failing to curb examination irregularities.
“During the previous Ashok Gehlot-led government, Rajasthan witnessed 19 paper leak incidents. Several promising students ended their lives due to depression, yet Rahul Gandhi neither visited them nor expressed concern for the youth of Rajasthan. Today, just 72 hours before the NEET examination, he has arrived in Kota to mislead students,” Rathore alleged.
The BJP leader also questioned the presence of former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Congress leader Sachin Pilot alongside Rahul Gandhi.
Referring to Pilot’s Jan Sangharsh Yatra, Rathore said the Congress leader had promised justice for students affected by paper leak incidents and urged Rahul Gandhi to ask what action was actually taken for Rajasthan’s youth.
Highlighting the BJP government’s record, Rathore claimed that, under Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, the practice of compromising students’ futures had ended.
He said more than 45 recruitment examinations had been conducted without any paper leak incidents and that around 1.25 lakh youths had secured jobs through a transparent recruitment process.
“In today’s Rajasthan, neither ‘parchi’ nor ‘kharchi’ works. Merit alone determines success,” Rathore said, adding that the government had ensured fairness and transparency in recruitment and competitive examinations.
