The Indian community and friends of India in Queensland gathered in Brisbane to celebrate India’s 80th Independence Day, with the programme highlighting patriotism, unity and pride in the country’s journey.
Consul General of India in Brisbane Neetu Bhagotia hoisted the Indian tricolour, marking the occasion and setting the tone for the Independence Day celebrations.
The event brought together members of the Indian community and friends of India from across Queensland, providing an opportunity to celebrate India’s achievements, heritage and continuing journey while strengthening bonds within the diaspora.
Bhagotia also read excerpts from the President of India’s address to the nation on the eve of Independence Day. The address reflected on India’s journey, its achievements and its aspirations for the future.
A quiz organised by the Consulate added an interactive element to the celebrations, with participants testing their knowledge of India’s history, heritage and achievements. Attendees were also encouraged to participate in the Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz, a global initiative aimed at deepening knowledge and understanding of India among people of Indian origin and friends of India.
The celebrations also brought together people from across Queensland and highlighted India’s diverse cultural traditions. The programme provided an opportunity for the community to showcase its cultural heritage while reflecting on the values of unity and diversity.
The gathering reinforced the strong cultural connections between the Indian diaspora and India, while offering a platform for the community to come together and celebrate the country’s milestone Independence Day.
