Prominent Brisbane criminal lawyer Michael Bosscher, a Bosscher Lawyers solicitor and a law clerk, the son of a Queensland magistrate, have each been charged with aggravated fraud.
Mr Bosscher, 48, Bosscher Lawyers solicitor Alex Jones, 32, and former law clerk with the firm, Tom Strofield, 29, the son of magistrate Colin Strofield, were arrested early this morning and taken to the Brisbane watchhouse.
There is no suggestion Magistrate Strofield has any connection to the case.
Each was charged with aggravated fraud and Mr Bosscher also was charged with eight counts of fraudulent falsification of records.
They were bailed to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on November 23.
The charges come after the Brisbane-based law firm was raided last year as part of a Crime and Corruption Commission investigation.
The CCC and Queensland Police Service are jointly investigating suspected criminal activity within elements of the Queensland legal profession .
Michael Bosscher, a solicitor since 1994, has handled major criminal cases for Bosscher Lawyers, including white-collar crime cases.
Bosscher was born and raised in Melbourne but educated in Brisbane.
He worked in the Crown Solicitor’s Office while studying, before beginning work as a criminal lawyer.
Bosscher has previously served as a director for various companies and a consulting firm.
Alex Jones began working for Bosscher Lawyers in 2008 and has represented criminal clients on murder and drug importation charges and players in AFLQ tribunal hearings.
Former Bosscher Lawyers law clerk Tom Strofield has most recently worked for Hannay Lawyers as a law clerk.
Chris Hannay director of Hannay Lawyers said today he was unable to comment, as the matter was before the CCC.
