Flash flooding on the M1 Gateway Motorway at Nudgee has caused traffic delays to spill on to Southern Cross Motorway this afternoon, as the region continues to be battered by heavy rain.
Queensland Traffic has warned long delays are expected on the Gateway Motorway heading north, with the left lane blocked as of 1pm.
Flash flooding has also occurred on Gympie Rd in Carseldine towards Bald Hills, and lanes were reduced on Sandgate Rd near Boondall.
A severe storm warning has been issued for a large area of southern Queensland.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued the warning around noon, saying the Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Moreton Bay, Redland and Somerset local government areas, along with the southeast coast, Wide Bay and Burnett, Darling Downs and Granite Belt would be affected.
The warnings came with the southeast in line for a two-day drenching, as the region capped off a wet November.
Two weather systems — a surface trough from the Coral Sea dragging moist air, and an upper trough — are expected to create instability, causing widespread rain today before conditions ease tomorrow.
The possibility of showers is expected to linger through the week, before another system brings the likelihood of storms on Sunday.
The Bureau of Meteorology said that in the past 12 hours, the heaviest rainfall has been inland of the Sunshine Coast and the Brisbane bayside, including Manly, which had received 83mm.
The Brisbane region has received between 20mm and 30mm in the previous 12 hours.
