Guwahati, June 28 (IANS) The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has felicitated officials of Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Limited (BRPNNL) for their crucial role in restoring the damaged Vikramshila Setu in Bhagalpur district, officials said on Sunday.

A BRPNNL delegation, led by its Managing Director Jitendra Kumar, visited the headquarters of the Additional Director General Border Roads (East) in Guwahati, where Additional Director General Jitendra Prasad, VSM, honoured the officials for their contribution to the successful restoration of the strategic bridge.

The Vikramshila Setu, a key bridge linking North and South Bihar, suffered the collapse of one of its suspended spans on May 4, severely disrupting traffic and connectivity to the Seemanchal region.

Following a request from the Bihar government, the Ministry of Defence entrusted the restoration work to the BRO. The Director General Border Roads assigned the mission to Additional Director General Jitendra Prasad, who constituted a specialised engineering team under the leadership of Superintending Engineer (Civil) Bipin Kumar Chand.

Working under the supervision of Chief Engineer (Project) Swastik Brigadier Amit Sakhre, the team restored the damaged structure by launching four Bailey Bridges, enabling the bridge to reopen for traffic on June 7.

Officials said BRPNNL played a key role throughout the operation by extending logistical support, facilitating technical coordination and assisting with local administrative requirements, which helped ensure the project was completed within a record timeframe.

Six BRPNNL officials, including Managing Director Jitendra Kumar and Superintending Engineer Shashi Bhushan Singh, were felicitated during the ceremony in recognition of their contribution.

During the event, Bipin Kumar Chand briefed the gathering on the engineering challenges faced during the operation and the innovative techniques adopted to complete the restoration under demanding conditions.

Addressing the gathering, Jitendra Prasad described the restoration of Vikramshila Setu as an outstanding example of inter-agency coordination, engineering excellence and commitment to public service.

He said the successful operation reflected the strong partnership between the BRO and the Bihar government in restoring critical infrastructure and ensuring uninterrupted connectivity for the people.
