New Delhi, May 19 (IANS) The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested an Assistant Vigilance Officer and a multi-tasking staff member of the Delhi Development Authority in a bribery case.

The arrests were made on Monday, May 18, 2026, following a successful trap operation, according to a Central Bureau of Investigation press note.

The Central Bureau of Investigation registered the case on Monday against the Assistant Vigilance Officer of the Delhi Development Authority based on a complaint filed by a former Deputy Director of the same authority.

It was alleged that the Assistant Vigilance Officer demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh to send a favourable reply to the complainant’s parent department in an ongoing vigilance matter.

After negotiation, the accused agreed to accept Rs 3 lakh as an undue advantage.

As per the Central Bureau of Investigation press note, “the Central Bureau of Investigation laid a trap on May 18, 2026, and caught the Assistant Vigilance Officer while demanding and accepting Rs 50,000 through the accused multi-tasking staff member of the Delhi Development Authority, as part payment out of the total bribe amount of Rs 3,00,000 from the complainant.”

Both the accused persons have been arrested, and further investigation is underway.

This action highlights the Central Bureau of Investigation’s continued focus on tackling corruption within public institutions.

The Delhi Development Authority, responsible for urban planning and development projects in the national capital, has occasionally faced scrutiny over vigilance issues.

Cases like this underscore the challenges of maintaining integrity in regulatory and vigilance roles where officials exercise significant discretionary powers.

The Central Bureau of Investigation has reiterated its firm stance against corruption.
