CBI arrests Postal Department official in Telangana in bribery case

Hyderabad, May 8 (IANS) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an official of the Postal Department in Telangana in connection with a bribery case. an official said on Friday.

Kokku Gopinath, Inspector of Posts, Wanaparthy Division, was arrested while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 30,000 from the complainant, the agency said in a release on Friday.

The CBI registered the instant case on Thursday (May 7) against the Superintendent and Inspector of Posts, Wanaparthy Division and unknown others for extortion of Rs 1.30 lakh by the accused individuals from the complainant and for demanding a bribe of Rs 30,000 for releasing substitute salary due to the complainant.

The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused Inspector red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 30,000 from the complainant.

The accused Inspector has been arrested and produced before the Court of Principal Special Judge for CBI Cases, Hyderabad on Friday (May 8) and was remanded to Judicial Custody till May 20.

Searches were conducted at the two residential premises of the accused at Badangpet, Rangareddy district and Warangal Cross Road, Kammam, Telangana.

The case is under investigation, the release added.

The CBI said that if public have any complaint about corruption in Central government departments, public sector undertakings, banks, insurance companies, Railways functioning in the state of Telangana, they may contact the Deputy Inspector General of Police, CBI, ACB, Hyderabad over phone Nos. 040-24732763 (O) & 9502999700 (Cell) or through mail at hobachyd@cbi.gov.in.

Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Telangana caught two officials of the forest red-handed while accepting the bribe.

Santhapuri Sujatha, Forest Divisional Officer (FDO), Bhadrachalam and Bhukya Krishna, Deputy Range Officer (DRO) of Tegada & in-charge Forest Range Officer, Charla were caught by ACB, Khammam Range while they demanded total Rs 10 lakh, reduced to Rs 3.50 lakh and accepted the same at Forest Divisional Office, Bhadrachalam for doing an official favour.

The bribe was demanded for not registering a cases against the complainant for allegedly causing damage to forest trees, while laying two km BT (Bituminous/Blacktop) road from Pusuguppa village, Charla mandal to Chhattisgarh border, which was completed in 2025, and also not to disturb the complainant in his present and future works.
