Patna, June 30 (IANS) A wedding celebration in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district turned into panic after celebratory gunfire allegedly left three people injured during the welcome ceremony of a baraat in Parsauni Jahangir village under the Sahebganj police station limits.

The incident late Monday night triggered chaos at the venue as guests rushed to safety following the sound of gunshots.

Police reached the spot soon after receiving information and launched an investigation into the matter.

According to police, the wedding procession of Kedar Tiwari, son of Devsharan Tiwari from Jagirha village in East Champaran district, had arrived at the residence of Mukesh Pathak in Parsauni Jahangir village.

As the baraat was being welcomed and guests were engaged in singing and dancing during the traditional ‘darwaza lagna’ ceremony, an individual allegedly opened fire in celebration.

Eyewitnesses said around three rounds were fired, resulting in injuries to three people.

Among the injured is a tent house worker, Anil Paswan, who has been admitted to Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) for treatment.

According to local sources, the other two injured individuals were members of the wedding party.

They are reportedly undergoing treatment at a private hospital, although police are still verifying their identities and treatment details.

Sahebganj SHO Sunil Kumar confirmed that police received information about three people being injured in the celebratory firing.

He said one injured person has been identified, while efforts are continuing to establish the identities of the remaining two.

Police are questioning people associated with the wedding function to determine who fired the shots.

Additional SHO Ashok Ram and Sub-Inspector Nitish Kumar have been assigned to investigate the case.

Police officials stated that the person responsible for opening fire will be identified and legal action will be taken in accordance with the law.

The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of celebratory firing at weddings and public gatherings.

Such incidents have repeatedly resulted in injuries and fatalities despite strict legal provisions prohibiting the practice.
