Itanagar, April 24 (IANS) As part of the Census 2027 process, Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen K.T. Parnaik (Retd) completed his self-enumeration at Lok Bhavan, Itanagar, on Friday, setting an example for citizens to actively participate in this crucial national exercise.

A Lok Bhavan official said that while interacting with the enumeration team, the Governor emphasised that self-enumeration is essential for ensuring a credible and inclusive Census, as it allows citizens to directly contribute to nation-building through accurate representation of their families, communities and regions.

He highlighted that reliable census data forms the backbone of planning for schools, hospitals, roads, welfare schemes and broader development policies, making self-enumeration a key pillar in realising the vision of Viksit Bharat.

Appealing to citizens to participate with sincerity and awareness, Lt Gen Parnaik (Retd) said that self-enumeration goes beyond being a statistical exercise and represents a vital civic responsibility.

He noted that it plays a critical role in assessing needs, ensuring fair allocation of resources and strengthening good governance.

The Governor also urged the Census team to ensure that every household is counted, every voice is heard and no one is left behind, adding that active public participation will contribute to building a stronger and more developed India.

A team from the Directorate of Census Operations, Shillong, led by Director Biswajit Pegu, along with officials from the Department of Economics & Statistics, led by Anu Singh, Secretary-cum-State Nodal Officer, Census-27, briefed the Governor on the Census process and its modalities.

They informed that the self-enumeration phase under House Listing Operations, which began on April 16, will continue until April 30, 2026, during which citizens can complete the process online.

This will be followed by House Listing fieldwork from May 1 to May 30, 2026, when Census enumerators will visit households for data collection.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein also actively participated in the exercise from Itanagar and Namsai, respectively, on April 16.

Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister Mein described Census 2027 as a vital national exercise that supports development planning and strengthens public service delivery through the use of reliable and comprehensive data.
