After starring in a glamorous role of Rani Padmavati in the film Padmaavat, Deepika Padukone came to the big screen after a break of almost two years in Chhapaak. The film is based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal.
Deepika is playing the lead role of Laxmi in the film. Chhapaak, which is made on a budget of Rs 35 crore, crossed the Rs 25 crore mark on Wednesday (January 15). The film hit the theatres on January 7 and collected Rs 4.77 crore on the first day of its release.
It earned Rs 2.61 crore on Wednesday. Chhapaak is expected to maintain its steady streak on Thursday and mint Rs 2 crore. It is directed by Meghna Gulzar and also stars Vikrant Massey in a lead role.
The film was released along side Ajay Devgn and Kajol’s Tanhaji: The Unung Warrior. Though Tanhaji has crossed Rs 100 crore mark, the film was made on a giant budget of Rs 150 crore.
Chhapaak has been made tax free in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. Madhya Pradesh, in fact, has started a campaign against illegal sale of acid in the country.
