CM Yadav hints at BJP eyeing third Rajya Sabha seat in MP

Indore, June 6 (IANS) State Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Saturday indicated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is confident of securing the third Rajya Sabha seat from Madhya Pradesh, responding in his signature witty style when asked about the electoral battle.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of a press conference in Indore, Yadav remarked, “The third Rajya Sabha seat will come, I mean, where else would it go?” His light-hearted yet assertive comment has sparked fresh political discussions across the state, clearly signalling the BJP’s strong intent to win all three seats in the upcoming elections.

The Chief Minister was in Indore to participate in the India-Latin America and Caribbean Trade and Investment Forum, an event aimed at positioning Madhya Pradesh as a global investment and export hub.

Investors from over 15 countries participated in the forum, held under Yadav’s patronage. The gathering focused on boosting industrial development and forging long-term international partnerships.

When queried about the Rajya Sabha polls, especially after two BJP candidates, namely Tarun Chugh and Rajneesh Agrawal, had already filed their nominations, Yadav’s response clearly indicated the party’s confidence amid a competitive political environment.

The Congress has fielded Meenakshi Natarajan as its candidate for one of the seats and has been vocal about facing any challenges, including potential cross-voting. Nominations will close on June 8, setting the stage for a keenly watched triangular contest.

Earlier too, Yadav’s cabinet colleague and senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya had said the party’s top leadership could signal that the state unit is in a position to grab the third seat as well.

Rajya Sabha elections will take place on June 18.

The Rajya Sabha elections have gained significant attention, with both major parties mobilising resources. While the Congress has expressed unity and readiness to counter the BJP’s strategies, Yadav’s remarks reflect the ruling party’s optimism.
