New Delhi, Aug 4 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday attended a sensitisation workshop for public representatives organised under the TB-Free India Campaign and urged citizens, corporates and social organisations to join the fight against the disease.

The Chief Minister said the Delhi government is fully committed to achieving the goal of eliminating tuberculosis (TB).

She added that against the TB patient notification targets set by the Union government, Delhi has consistently achieved more than 95 per cent of its annual target.

She said that TB is now a curable disease, and with timely diagnosis and completion of treatment, patients can recover completely.

The programme was organised at the Delhi Secretariat by the National Health Mission and the Delhi State Health Mission.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the TB-Free India Campaign has evolved beyond a government programme into a nationwide movement driven by public participation.

She added that the Prime Minister’s visionary leadership has turned TB elimination into a people’s movement across the country, and the target can now be achieved within the stipulated timeline only through the active participation of every citizen.

During the programme, the Department of Health and Family Welfare screened a special awareness video on tuberculosis, while the Delhi State Health Mission made a detailed presentation on the achievements, current status and future roadmap of the TB-Free India Campaign.

The Chief Minister also visited various information and awareness stalls related to the TB elimination campaign.

She particularly inspected the stall showcasing the ‘Nikshay Mitra’ initiative and received details about the nutritional support being provided to TB patients, community participation, public involvement, patient rehabilitation and the digital support mechanism.

She held detailed discussions with officials on the progress of the campaign, the services reaching patients and efforts to strengthen public participation.

She also directed officials to ensure that the campaign reaches every ward, Assembly constituency and local area effectively so that more citizens become part of this people’s movement.

Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh, Members of Parliament, MLAs, Councillors, senior administrative officials, health department officials and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
