Congress accuses Trinamool of demolishing temporary helipad made to land Rahul Gandhi’s chopper in Raiganj

Kolkata, April 14 (IANS) Congress MP and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi is all set to kick-start his campaign for the West Bengal Assembly polls with three rallies lined up in North Dinajpur, Malda and Murshidabad districts. However, ahead of his visit, the Congress accused the Trinamool Congress of demolishing the temporary helipad built in North Dinajpur district’s Raiganj where Rahul Gandhi’s chopper was supposed to land.

District Congress leader Deepa Dasmunsi has spoken out about this and Raiganj Congress candidate, Mohit Sengupta, has targeted the Trinamool Congress by posting a video on Facebook.

Talking about the incident, Deepa Dasmunsi claimed, “Everyone has the right to hold election meetings. Trinamool has lost the minimum sense of courtesy. Meetings are organised in stadiums according to specific rules. But still, attempts were made to spoil Rahul Gandhi’s meeting with hateful politics.”

Former MP and senior Congress leader Adhir Chowdhury’s reaction to this was that Rahul Gandhi will see with his own eyes how Trinamool runs West Bengal.

However, Trinamool leader Arindam Sarkar, former vice chairman of Raiganj Municipality, asserted that the Trinamool had nothing to do with the demolition of the helipad. He said, “Trinamool has not reached such a situation that the Congress’ campaigning has to be stopped.”

LoP Gandhi is set to attend an election rally in support of party candidate Mohit Sengupta at Raiganj Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. In a Facebook post this morning, Sengupta said that he is coming to campaign out of respect for the fight for justice and rights in Bengal.

In preparation for his meeting, a helipad was built next to the Raiganj Stadium on Monday. But the allegations are that the concrete helipad was suddenly being demolished. On receiving the news on Monday night, Congress District General Secretary Tushar Guha rushed to the spot.

Tushar Guha claimed, “Rahul Gandhi’s election meeting was finalised long ago. Preparations for organising the meeting were started with the permission of the Raiganj Sub-Divisional Magistrate. But suddenly today it is time to demolish the stadium’s helipad. This is a conspiracy by the Trinamool Congress.”
