Srinagar, May 19 (IANS) J&K Police’s Crime Branch has carried out searches in a land fraud case in Budgam district, an official statement said on Tuesday.

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K carried out searches in Budgam in connection with a Rs 93 lakh land fraud case involving the sale of migrant property and standing trees through forged agreements.

House searches were carried out at Semsaan in Budgam in connection with FIR No. 17/2026 registered under Sections 318(4), 336(3), 340 and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Police Station EOW Kashmir.

The case pertains to an alleged land fraud involving the accused, Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Dar of Jawalpora, Budgam and Soom Nath Koul of Bengaluru/Jammu. Investigation revealed that the complainant was allegedly induced to purchase 5 kanals of migrant land at Drusu, Pulwama and 300 standing trees at Bijbehara through fake agreements, with Koul allegedly posing as the attorney holder of the original owners, while Dar acted as witness.

Investigation, however, revealed that neither the land nor the trees belonged to the accused.

Consequently, in continuation of the investigation, house searches were carried out in Semsaan in the presence of Executive Magistrates to collect incriminating material and other evidence relevant to the case.

The Crime Branch also advised the general public to remain vigilant against economic fraudsters and report any such incidents directly to SSP EOW Srinagar (Crime Branch J&K), Abdul Waheed Shah. Victims of economic fraud may also submit complaints through the official email: sspeow-kmr@jkpolice.gov.in

J&K Crime Branch carries out investigations into special crimes, including economic offences, for which dedicated teams of sleuths are required to conduct regular and focussed investigation, as the police engaged in maintenance of law and order wouldn’t have time or the expertise to investigate such cases.
