AN elderly cyclist who died after crashing into a parked car at Hope Island this morning has been identified as passionate masters rider Lee Wilde.
Despite desperate efforts by paramedics to revive him on the side of the road this morning, the 75-year-old widower passed away at the scene before he could be rushed to hospital for treatment.
Emergency services were called to the crash scene at 9.14am after a cyclist and car collided on Hope Island Road, Hope Island.
It is understood Mr Wilde crashed into the back of the parked car and suffered a heart attack.
Paramedics performed CPR as shocked fellow cyclists looked on and authorities held up a sheet conceal the body lying on the road.
However, he could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Motorists were advised to avoid to area with delays between Monterey Keys Drive and River Links Boulevard.
