New Delhi, June 3 (IANS) Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu chaired a review meeting with officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to discuss urban governance, improvements to civic infrastructure, and enhanced structural safety throughout the city.

The meeting addressed several key issues, including the desilting of stormwater drains in preparation for the monsoon season, road and pavement repairs to control dust, intensified sanitation efforts, and the acceleration of the Pradhan Mantri Unauthorised Colonies in Delhi Awas Adhikar Yojana (PM-UDAY) for unauthorised colonies. Additionally, the meeting explored corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives for rejuvenating parks.

Following the meeting, the L-G took to X and said, “Took a high-level review meeting of MCD to drive a comprehensive action plan for stronger urban governance, improved civic infrastructure, and enhanced structural safety across the capital.”

“Emphasised strict enforcement of building bylaws to curb illegal structural expansions and directed the MCD to implement a time-bound strategy to tackle unauthorised constructions decisively,” he said.

This also comes against the backdrop of the two building collapses in Delhi, which claimed several lives and left dozens injured.

With the monsoon approaching in North India, particular emphasis was placed on desilting water drains to prevent waterlogging, a recurring problem that has caused distress for commuters and residents alike.

“Also reviewed key civic priorities, including desilting of stormwater drains ahead of the monsoon, road and pavement repairs for dust mitigation, and intensified garbage clearance to strengthen sanitation standards,” L-G Sandhu said.

The Lieutenant Governor also highlighted the importance of public welfare initiatives, urging officials to expedite the PM-UDAY scheme for residents of unauthorised colonies and to finalise a participatory CSR framework for the revitalisation of public parks.

“Guided by Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s vision of inclusive development, our commitment remains to provide every Delhi resident with a safe, planned, clean, and dignified living environment,” he added.
