New Delhi, May 22 (IANS) Delhi Lieutenant Governor (L-G) T.S. Sandhu on Friday discussed issues related to the city’s infrastructure and urban mobility with Union Minister Manohar Lal, an official said.

In a message on social media platform X, L-G Sandhu said, “Called on Union Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs and Power, @mlkhattarJi. Discussed a range of developmental issues concerning Delhi, focusing on infrastructure enhancement, urban mobility, and collaborative efforts to ensure the city’s sustained growth and improved public service delivery.”

In another development, the Delhi government took another step towards making Delhi cleaner, smarter and more sustainable through the promotion of sustainable urban mobility on Friday.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta flagged off the Uber Airport Share service, in the presence of Minister for Environment, Forest and Wildlife Manjinder Singh Sirsa, at the Delhi Secretariat.

Launched at one of the country’s busiest transit hubs, the Uber Airport Share service at the Indira Gandhi International Airport will offer affordable, convenient and seamless shared ride options directly through the Uber app.

Chief Minister Gupta said, “The Delhi government is committed to building a cleaner, greener and smarter capital through innovative and sustainable mobility solutions.”

“The launch of the ride share service is a major step towards reducing traffic congestion, lowering vehicular emissions and encouraging citizens to adopt shared and environmentally responsible modes of transport. This initiative reflects our vision of creating a modern, technology-driven and commuter-friendly transport ecosystem for Delhi,” she added.

In another development, the Delhi government’s Environment Department signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the AIRAWAT Research Foundation of Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in the presence of Chief Minister Gupta.

“The agreement aims to address the challenge of air pollution in an effective and scientific manner. The MoU will remain in force for the next five years,” a statement said.

Through this partnership, air quality management in the national capital will be further strengthened through the use of artificial intelligence (AI), advanced data analytics, hyperlocal monitoring, and scientific decision-support systems.

Chief Minister Gupta said that the partnership would play an important role in ensuring more accurate identification of pollution sources, monitoring of pollution hotspots, improved forecasting systems, and timely interventions.
