Delhi Police arrest Proclaimed Offender evading trial in robbery case

New Delhi, May 12 (IANS) The Anti-Jail Bail and Proclaimed Offenders Cell of Dwarka District Police has arrested a Proclaimed Offender who had been evading trial in a robbery case, officials said on Tuesday.

The accused, identified as Mohit alias Monty, was declared a Proclaimed Offender on April 22, in connection with FIR No. 98/2018 registered under Sections 392, 411 and 34 of the IPC at Janakpuri Nagar Police Station by the Dwarka Court.

According to police, a special drive against Proclaimed Offenders is being conducted under the directions of Dwarka District DCP Kushal Pal Singh. In this regard, a dedicated team was formed under the leadership of Inspector Harish Kumar and supervised by ACP Operations Subhash Malik.

The police team included Head Constables Ajit Yadav, Kulwant Singh and Rahul Yadav, along with Constables Rohit and Ankur from the Anti-PO Jail Bail and Proclaimed Offender Cell of Dwarka District.

Police said the team was continuously working on both technical surveillance and manual Intelligence inputs to trace Proclaimed Offenders operating in the area.

On May 1, while the police team was present in the Madipur area, they received specific information that the accused, Mohit alias Monty, who had been absconding after being declared a Proclaimed Offender by the Dwarka Court, was present in the locality.

Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the team laid a trap in the area and successfully apprehended the accused from Madipur, Delhi. He was subsequently arrested under Section 35.1(D) of the BNSS vide DD No. 70-A dated May 1, at PS Dwarka North.

Police said the accused is a resident of JJ Colony, Madipur, Delhi, and is 31-years-old. During verification, it was found that he was previously involved in 10 criminal cases.

Further investigation into the matter is underway, police added.

Earlier in the day, the Delhi Police also successfully resolved a house theft case just hours after the incident, apprehending the burglar in the process. The police recovered several stolen electronic devices, including Apple products, from the accused’s possession.

According to police, the staff of Police Station Kishangarh arrested the accused, identified as Md. Ashad Anwar, and recovered stolen articles, including an iPhone, iPad, Android mobile phone, Apple wristwatches, a Nikon DSLR camera and other electronic items.
