New Delhi, May 19 (IANS) Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested a robber involved in the theft of an Apple iPhone-17 from a vehicle near Connaught Place and recovered the stolen mobile phone from his possession, officials said.

According to Delhi Police, the accused was apprehended by a team from Police Station Mandir Marg following a swift and professional investigation. Police have also invoked Section 112 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the accused during the course of the investigation.

The incident was reported by Md. Jafar, son of Noor Mohammad, a resident of Khadda Colony, Jaitpur Extension-2, Badarpur. The complainant runs an event management company under the name “ZK Group India.”

Police said that on the night of May 16, between 9.35 p.m. and 9.40 p.m., Jafar was heading towards R.K. Ashram Metro Station when he stopped his car near Outer Circle, Panchkuian Road, Connaught Place, to attend a phone call. During this time, an unidentified person allegedly stole his Apple iPhone-17 from inside the vehicle and fled towards the Inner Circle area.

Following the complaint, a case under Section 303(2) of the BNS was registered at Police Station Mandir Marg on May 17.

To crack the case, a dedicated police team comprising SI Arvind Kumar, HC Makkhan Lal and Rahees Khan, and Constable Surender Kumar was formed under the supervision of the SHO of Mandir Marg police station and the overall supervision of the ACP, Connaught Place.

During the investigation, the police team carefully examined CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding areas. The suspect was seen fleeing towards Basant Lane in Paharganj after committing the theft.

Based on CCTV analysis, local intelligence inputs and surveillance in the areas of Paharganj and Sadar Bazar, police identified the accused as Mohit Manav, son of Raju, a resident of Sadar Bazar, Delhi. Officials confirmed that the accused matched the individual seen in the CCTV footage during the commission of the crime.

On May 18, the accused was arrested from the R.K. Ashram area. The stolen Apple iPhone-17 was recovered from his possession. Police also recovered the clothes allegedly worn by the accused at the time of the offence, as captured in the CCTV footage.

Police said the accused is a “Bad Character” (BC) of Police Station Sadar Bazar and has previous criminal involvement in robbery, theft and Arms Act cases.

His previous involvements include cases registered under Sections 394/34 IPC, 379 IPC and Section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station Sadar Bazar.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
