New Delhi, July 17 (IANS) Two men were arrested in separate operations for allegedly possessing illegal firearms, said Delhi Police on Friday, adding that two country-made pistols and two live cartridges were recovered from them. Two separate cases have been registered under Section 25 of the Arms Act, officials said on Friday.

According to a press release issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Rajendra Prasad Meena, the arrests were made as part of the police’s “continuous drive against illegal possession of firearms and to maintain peace and public safety in the area.”

The release said that the beat staff of Police Station Seemapuri had intensified patrolling and surveillance at vulnerable locations, and “their alertness and timely action resulted in the apprehension of two persons carrying illegal firearms in separate incidents.”

In the first case, Head Constables Ajeet and Rinku were on patrol near Kabristan Road, MCD Park, New Seemapuri, when they noticed a suspicious individual. According to the police, the man attempted to flee after spotting the patrol team but was chased and apprehended. During his search, officers allegedly recovered one country-made pistol and one live cartridge from the left pocket of his trousers.

The accused was identified as Sohil (19), a resident of New Seemapuri, Delhi. Following the recovery, FIR No. 452/2026 was registered under Section 25 of the Arms Act at Seemapuri Police Station, and further investigation was assigned to Head Constable (HC) Rujudeen.

In a separate incident later the same day, HC Monu and Constable Vikram were patrolling near the Railway Line at A-Block, Jhilmil Industrial Area, when they spotted another man who allegedly tried to escape after noticing the police team. He was apprehended, and a search led to the recovery of one country-made pistol and one live cartridge.

The accused was identified as Rishikant (22), a resident of Bhandwa Sawran village in Etawah district, Uttar Pradesh. Police registered FIR No. 451/2026 under Section 25 of the Arms Act, with the investigation assigned to HC Devender.

Summarising the operation, the press release stated that “the prompt action, vigilance and professional policing by the beat staff of PS Seemapuri led to the arrest of two persons illegally possessing firearms, recovery of two country-made pistols and two live cartridges, and registration of two separate Arms Act cases.”

It further noted that “the timely action of the police prevented the possible misuse of these illegal weapons and enhanced public safety in the area.”

Police said further investigation is underway to determine the source of the recovered firearms and to verify whether the accused were involved in any other criminal activities.
