New Delhi, July 5 (IANS) Three accused have been arrested within 18 hours of stabbing a 20-year-old in northeast Delhi’s New Usmanpur, officials said on Sunday, adding that the murder weapon, a knife, was also recovered.

A 20-year-old man lost his life, and his remains were found in a DDA park early on Saturday.

The victim was named Toheed, a resident of K-Block, New Seelampur.

Toheed, who was employed as a labourer for a nearby scrap dealer, had allegedly left home the night before for work and was found the following morning, covered in blood with stab wounds.

He was taken to JPC Hospital, where medical staff pronounced him dead on arrival.

Accordingly, a case was registered under relevant sections of the law at New Usmanpur Police Station, and an investigation was taken up. During the investigation, the forensic team inspected the crime scene and collected vital evidence.

Dedicated teams led by Inspector K.L. Yadav, SHO/PS New Usmanpur, under the close supervision of Malkiyat Singh, ACP/Seelampur, worked tirelessly and collected vital evidence from multiple sources. During the course of the investigation, it came to light that the deceased had been involved in a quarrel with some persons earlier that evening.

Based on the evidence collected and sustained efforts, the police team apprehended the following three accused involved in the murder — Shahnawaz (21 years), Noor Hasan (20 years) and Anas (21 years) — all residents of T-Huts in Delhi’s Seelampur.

During sustained interrogation, all three accused confessed to their involvement in the crime. They disclosed that the deceased had earlier slapped Noor Hasan and had threatened Shahnawaz with dire consequences.

Seeking revenge, the trio hatched a conspiracy, lured the deceased to a park, and assaulted him by stabbing him with a knife.

The knife used in the commission of the offence has been recovered. On detailed verification, accused Shahnawaz was previously found involved in a robbery case.

Further investigation into the case is in progress.
