New Delhi, May 25 (IANS) Three persons using betting applications/software, including “Sky Live Pro”, “Data Calculation Ver 1.0” and “Skyexch” for operating an online IPL betting racket were arrested in East Delhi’s Madhu Vihar, a Delhi Police official said on Monday.

Manish Jain, 50, resident of Madhu Vihar, Abhishek Jain,26, resident of Jagat Puri, and Arpit Gupta, 40, resident of Mandawali, were arrested on Saturday, and two laptops, two tablets, nine mobile phones, and a notepad containing handwritten betting entries were seized, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East District) Rajeev Kumar.

An FIR, Number 193/26, under sections 3/4/5 Delhi Public Gambling Act, 1955, was registered over the offence at Police Station Madhu Vihar, said a police official.

The police official said that Assistant Sub-Inspector Rajiv Kumar received a tip-off on Saturday around 6 pm, regarding illegal online IPL betting being conducted by Manish Jain and his associates from Madhu Vihar.

The information further revealed that the accused were actively operating an online betting racket during IPL T-20 matches and planning to place heavy bets during the IPL match, he said.

Acting swiftly upon the information and after obtaining the necessary search warrant, a police team conducted a raid at the identified premises situated in Madhu Vihar, the police said in a statement.

Upon reaching the upper floor of the premises, three persons were found sitting in the drawing room with laptops, tablets, mobile phones, and handwritten betting records, the police said.

Live streaming of the IPL match was running on tablets, and the accused were allegedly coordinating betting activities with punters through phone calls, the police said.

On noticing the police team, the accused attempted to flee and created a commotion at the spot; however, the police staff acted promptly and successfully overpowered and apprehended all three accused, said the statement.

A police official said that the investigation is still in progress to ascertain the network, financial transactions, and the involvement of other persons linked to the online betting syndicate.
