Bhopal, May 20 (IANS) Demands for a second post-mortem at AIIMS Delhi and a CBI investigation into the suspicious death of Twisha Sharma have grown stronger, with the case now acquiring a political dimension.

Court proceedings are underway in Bhopal, even as the prime accused, her husband Samarth Singh, remains absconding. Senior Supreme Court advocate and Congress Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, demanding a CBI inquiry.

In a tweet on his X handle, Tankha wrote, “Hand over the unfortunate #Twisha unnatural death case to CBI : request to HHM Amit Shah ji and HCM Dr Mohan Yadav ji. There is distrust and impasse for last 8 days. The victim family not performing last rites. Emotions are high. Trust levels low. CBI is the answer.”

Tankha stated that Twisha’s family has been seeking justice for the past eight days and is deeply distressed.

Considering the serious allegations and doubts raised by the family, a neutral CBI investigation is necessary to ensure complete impartiality.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has also taken suo motu cognisance of the matter and has sought a detailed report from Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary Anurag Jain and Director General of Police Kailash Makwana.

Twisha Sharma, daughter-in-law of retired District and Sessions Judge Giribala Singh, was residing in the Katara Hills police station area of Bhopal.

Her body was found under suspicious circumstances, and the initial post-mortem report reportedly revealed injuries and signs of struggle.

The family has been consistently demanding a second post-mortem examination at AIIMS, Delhi. They filed a petition in the Bhopal District Court two days ago.

Hearings began on Wednesday, and the court is expected to deliver its decision on the second post-mortem by this evening.
