Berlin, Aug 23 (IANS) Martin Demichelis made a winning start as RB Leipzig cruised into the German Cup second round with a 6-0 victory at fourth-tier Eintracht Trier on Saturday.
Leipzig took control almost immediately in front of 9,000 spectators at a sold-out Moselstadion. Brajan Gruda opened the scoring after three minutes, before Willi Orban doubled the advantage three minutes later.
The visitors continued to dominate and struck again in stoppage time as Ridle Baku’s shot was deflected by Gianluca Pelzer into his own net.
Demichelis made four substitutions after around an hour, with summer signing Rocco Reitz among those introduced.
Reitz was involved in the fourth goal in the 76th minute, delivering a low ball that Conrad Harder converted. Antonio Nusa added another in stoppage time before Ezechiel Banzuzi completed the scoring with the final action of the match.
Leipzig will begin its Bundesliga campaign at home to Borussia Monchengladbach next Saturday.
Demichelis, who replaced Ole Werner, had demanded a disciplined display before his first competitive match. “I expect a serious game from us, with and without the ball,” the Argentine said.
Elsewhere, Bayer Leverkusen eased past Wehen Wiesbaden 4-0, Hoffenheim won 4-0 at Erzgebirge Aue, and third-tier Sonnenhof Grossaspach knocked out 2025 finalist Arminia Bielefeld 3-0 on penalties after a 2-2 draw following extra time.
