Detectives are awaiting test results on the body of a home intruder who died following a struggle with a Sydney father inside his family home.
Francois Schwartz, 44, was quizzed by NSW Police and released without charge after a 35-year-old intruder he confronted in his lounge room in Harrington Park died following a struggle between the two men.
He had been at home with his wife and young daughter when the family dog started barking at 7.30am on Sunday morning.
He went to investigate and found a barefoot intruder in the two-storey house, according to police.
“He confronted that male intruder and a struggle has ensued,” Detective Chief Inspector Shane Woolbank said.
“As a result of that struggle, the male intruder has collapsed and become unconscious.”
The western Sydney business analyst was entitled to use “reasonable force” to protect himself and his family, said Det Ch Insp Woolbank.
A NSW Police source on Monday told AAP homicide detectives are assisting in the investigation and are awaiting the outcome of a post-mortem examination of the intruder’s body to determine the cause of death.
