Rudraprayag, May 21 (IANS) The portals of the revered Shri Madmaheshwar Temple in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district were opened for devotees on Thursday during the auspicious Karka Lagna amid elaborate Vedic rituals, chanting of mantras, and traditional religious ceremonies.

Known as the Second Kedar among the sacred Panch Kedar temples, the shrine was beautifully decorated with flowers, while the entire temple complex was immersed in an atmosphere of devotion and spirituality.

A large number of devotees gathered at the temple to witness the ceremonial opening and offered prayers to Lord Madmaheshwar, seeking blessings for happiness, peace, and prosperity.

Before the opening of the temple gates, the palanquin carrying the processional idol of Lord Madmaheshwar arrived at the shrine after going through various halts from its winter seat at Shri Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath. Devotees welcomed the palanquin with traditional rituals and religious fervour.

During the ceremony, special worship and rituals were performed inside the temple. The Swayambhu Shiva Lingam of Lord Madmaheshwar was adorned in its ceremonial Shringar form, transitioning from its meditative Samadhi form.

With the opening of the temple portals, the annual Shri Madmaheshwar Yatra has officially commenced, generating great enthusiasm among pilgrims and devotees from across the country. The temple will now remain open for devotees for six months during the summer pilgrimage season.

The Madmaheshwar Temple holds immense religious significance in the Panch Kedar circuit. Devotees believe that offering prayers at the shrine brings divine blessings, peace, and prosperity.

The Panch Kedar refers to five sacred temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand. According to mythology associated with the Mahabharata, the temples are linked to different manifestations of Lord Shiva after he disappeared to avoid the Pandavas.

The five temples that form the Panch Kedar are Kedarnath Temple, Tungnath Temple, Rudranath Temple, Madmaheshwar Temple, and Kalpeshwar Temple.

Earlier, on May 18, the portals of the revered Rudranath Temple in Chamoli district, known as the Fourth Kedar, were also opened for devotees amid elaborate religious ceremonies and Vedic rituals.
