Srinagar, April 16 (IANS) Continuing its sustained drive against drug trafficking under the ongoing “Nasha-Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan”, police in J&K’s Ganderbal achieved a significant success on Thursday.

In a specific and credible input received through reliable sources, Police Station Kangan was informed that Javed Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Rehim Dar, resident of Khanan Kangan, had concealed a contraband substance (Charas-like material) in a cowshed adjacent to his residence, a police statement said.

Upon receipt of this information, a case FIR No. 31/2026 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act was promptly registered at the police station. Subsequently, a police team, accompanied by an Executive Magistrate and the Lumberdar concerned, conducted a search operation at the identified location following all legal formalities and procedures.

During the search, approximately 580 grams of charas-like Powder was recovered & seized from the cowshed, and the accused was taken into police custody.

Further investigation into the case is underway to ascertain forward and backward linkages.

Ganderbal police reiterates its firm commitment towards eradicating the menace of drugs from society and urges the general public to cooperate and share any information related to drug trafficking.

J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, while launching the 100-day-long ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan’, had announced that cancellation of passports, Aadhaar card, and driving licence and attachment of property of drug smugglers are being imposed as punitive actions against the menace.

J&K Police and the security forces are carrying out aggressive anti-smuggling operations across the Union Territory. Those involved in hawala money rackets are also on the scanner of the security forces, as it is believed that the funds generated by these activities are used to fund terrorism in J&K.

Army and the Border Security Force (BSF) are deployed respectively on the line of control (LoC) and the international border (IB) to prevent infiltration, exfiltration, drug smuggling and drone activities initiated from across the border.
