New Delhi, July 11 (IANS) The Dwarka District Police have arrested an alleged illicit liquor supplier and seized 1,600 quarters of illegal liquor as part of the newly launched anti-drug and anti-illicit liquor campaign, officials said on Saturday.

According to a press release issued by the Dwarka District Police, “Making a dent on drugs & illicit liquor is a priority for Dwarka District Police” under the flagship campaign aimed at curbing the menace of narcotics and illegal liquor in the national Capital.

The police said one accused, identified as Badshah Khan (28), a resident of Sector-16A, Kakrola, Dwarka, was arrested with a large consignment of illicit liquor. A total of 32 cartons containing 1,600 quarters (180 ml each) of illegal liquor were recovered during the operation. The scooty allegedly used for transporting the liquor was also seized.

The press release stated that “01 illicit liquor supplier [was] arrested, with huge quantity of illicit liquor, by the team of Special Staff, Dwarka District,” adding that “1600 quarters (32 peti) of illegal liquor” had been recovered during the operation.

The special drive was launched on the directions of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Kushal Pal Singh, who tasked district police teams with intensifying action against drug trafficking and illicit liquor supply.

According to the release, DCP Singh has directed police personnel to wage “a decisive war against drugs and illicit liquor, intending to see Dwarka, Delhi and adjoining areas completely free from the menace,” while encouraging youth and society to engage in constructive activities.

The operation was carried out by a Special Staff team led by Inspector Kamlesh Kumar under the supervision of ACP (Operations) Subhash Malik. The team had been maintaining surveillance on suspected liquor suppliers, laying traps at multiple locations and deploying secret informers to monitor suspicious movements.

Police said the breakthrough came on July 2, when Head Constable Pardeep received specific information about an individual supplying illicit liquor on a scooty.

Acting on the tip-off, a raiding team intercepted the accused near Chander Shekhar Azad Enclave, JJ Colony, Sector-16A, Dwarka, within the jurisdiction of Dwarka North Police Station.

During the search, police recovered 100 quarters of illicit liquor from the scooty. Subsequent searches at a nearby house allegedly linked to the accused led to the recovery of an additional 30 cartons containing 1,500 quarters of illicit liquor.

Following the recovery, police registered FIR No. 221/26 under Sections 33, 38 and 58(d) of the Delhi Excise Act at Dwarka North Police Station and arrested the accused.

Police said investigations are underway to ascertain the role of the house owner and trace the source of the illicit liquor. Authorities added that special drives against illegal liquor suppliers will continue with the same intensity as part of the district’s ongoing campaign against drugs and illicit liquor.
