The Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland (ECCQ) has celebrated the graduation of participants from its SQW English class in Slacks Creek, recognising the achievements of learners who have completed more than six months of study and skills development.
ECCQ said the programme extends beyond English language instruction by equipping participants with practical knowledge to help them settle confidently into life in Australia.
During the course, participants received information on Australian laws and emergency responses from the Queensland Police Service, oral health education, and guidance on taxation and superannuation from the Australian Taxation Office.
The organisation said one participant shared that the programme had given them the confidence to independently visit a bank and manage their own finances, highlighting the broader benefits of the training.
ECCQ thanked Amani Community Centre, Pastor Asa and Prosper for supporting the programme and helping it continue to serve the community.
The organisation also congratulated participants who completed the Certificate I in Vocational Pathways, delivered through Aurora Training Institute, saying the graduates’ commitment and hard work had contributed to the programme’s success.
ECCQ said initiatives such as the SQW English classes help strengthen communities by improving language skills, practical knowledge and confidence among people from multicultural backgrounds.
