The Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland (ECCQ) marked its 50 years of service to Queensland’s multicultural communities at a civic reception hosted by Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner on August 20, bringing together recognition of the organisation’s contribution and the people and communities involved in its five-decade journey.
The reception celebrated the people, stories and contributions that have helped shape Queensland and Australia, according to ECCQ.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner highlighted Australia’s migrant history during the event, noting the role migration has played in shaping the country.
ECCQ Chair Elijah Buol OAM, a community advocate, also reflected on the organisation’s work and the broader place of multiculturalism in Australian society.
Buol said ECCQ had worked alongside communities for 50 years to advance inclusion, equity and belonging across Queensland.
He also acknowledged that challenges remained while emphasising the importance of continuing efforts towards a more connected and inclusive Queensland.
The civic reception recognised the generations of leaders, advocates, volunteers and community members who have contributed to ECCQ’s development over the past five decades.
ECCQ thanked Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner and Brisbane City Council for recognising the organisation’s 50-year milestone and celebrating the people who have contributed to its work.
The anniversary marks five decades of ECCQ working with multicultural communities across Queensland on issues relating to inclusion, equity and community participation.
