Kolkata, April 24 (IANS) Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Friday that the factories and industries which were either closed down or were forced to shift to other states from West Bengal during the last 15 years of Trinamool Congress government will be persuaded and brought back to the state if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes to power after the results of the two-phase Assembly elections.

“Several factories have closed down or shifted out of the state during the Trinamool Congress regime. Not a single new industrial unit or big investment had been there in the state during the last 15 years. But I want to assure the people of West Bengal that if the BJP comes to power in West Bengal all our efforts will be to persuade and reestablish these factories in the state,” the Union Home Minister said, while addressing a campaign rally at Uttarpara in Hooghly district.

Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister also launched a scathing attack against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the issue of “crime against women” in West Bengal during her tenure.

“Mamata Banerjee should be ashamed that as a woman Chief Minister she was unable to guarantee the safety of women in the state. Women-safety and women-empowerment will be our first priority if we come to power in West Bengal this time,” he said.

Earlier addressing another campaign rally at Hingalganj under Basirhat sub-division in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, the Union Home Minister added that he issued a note of caution that if the Trinamool Congress-backed hooligans would try to disrupt the polling process in the second phase of elections on April 29, they would be hanged upside down.

He also accused Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress of deliberately allowing entry of illegal infiltrators from Bangladesh to West Bengal.

“If the BJP comes to power in West Bengal this time, the first task would be to track each of these illegal infiltrators and deport them out of the country,” the Union Home Minister said.
