‘Fake, AI-generated video’: Ajay Rai after row erupts over remarks on PM Modi

Lucknow, May 23 (IANS) After a heated debate arose regarding his controversial comments about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai claimed on Saturday that an “AI-generated video” is being circulated against him as he extended support for the Mahoba rape victim.

In the video that has gone viral on social media, Ajay Rai is seen making distasteful remarks while waving to a group of people, who apparently assembled to see him off.

Meanwhile, an FIR has been filed against Ajay Rai after he was caught on camera making highly objectionable and filthy comments on the Prime Minister. The FIR also names outgoing secretary Brijraj and 30 unidentified supporters who were present with Rai during his visit to Mahoba. The case was filed based on a complaint by BJP leader and advocate Neeraj Rawat.

Reacting to this, Rai said, “I would only like to say that the Mahoba incident is a very sensitive issue. A Dalit girl was raped continuously for 16 days by several people… Where were the government and the police?… Today, to raise the issue of that girl, fake AI-generated videos are being circulated against me.”

“You may file ten cases against me, but give justice to that Dalit girl. That is my demand. For raising such an issue, if anyone wants, they can spread as many AI-generated videos as they want, file as many FIRs as they want,” he added.

The Mahoba case relates to a 25-year-old from Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur, who had moved to the city to prepare for NEET. She was allegedly kidnapped, drugged, tortured and gang-raped for 16 days before police rescued her from Prayagraj, officials said.

Three accused have been arrested so far, police said, adding that searches for others are underway.

The highly objectionable remarks made by Rai drew fire from the BJP as the party accused Congress of running a “third-rate nafrat ki dukaan” and said that the UP Congress chief’s remarks against the Prime Minister are “unforgivable”.

Rai criticised those remarks and asserted that the Congress party “actively works on the ground” to support victims of any wrongdoing.

“Our workers go everywhere where any wrongdoing happens. Rahul Gandhi just came to Raebareli. He toured places in 48-degree temperatures. He was not just sitting at home; he was on the ground. Yesterday, Mahoba’s temperature was 48 degrees, but we still went there,” he said.

Further expressing confidence in the Congress party’s prospects for the 2027 Assembly elections in the state, Rai said, “Through organisational strengthening, we are working with full strength in all Assembly constituencies.”
