New Delhi, July 12 (IANS) Five minor boys have been detained for allegedly stabbing a 34-year-old man to death after he accidentally splashed mud on them in northwest Delhi’s Ashok Vihar, police said on Sunday.

The victim, who has been identified as Bansi Lal, worked at a CCTV shop in Old Delhi’s Lala Lajpat Rai Market.

Officials said that the victim was found unconscious with multiple stab wounds on his chest, abdomen, and limbs near Prem Bari Pul towards the Keshav Puram area of the national capital.

He was rushed to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

According to police, the area near the canal had accumulated mud and was often used as an open toilet. Bansi Lal was walking through the muddy patch for nature’s call when a brawl took place among him and the group of minor boys that quickly turned violent.

During the confrontation, one of the juveniles allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim repeatedly, while the others joined in the assault. The boys then fled the spot.

Police registered a murder case and used CCTV footage along with local intelligence to identify and detain the five minors. The knife used in the crime has been seized.

This comes close on the heels of another similar incident when two juveniles were detained for stabbing a 17-year-old boy to death in the Seelampur area of the National Capital following an altercation. The incident occurred on June 23.

The investigators said that the two accused had been apprehended within hours of the incident, while the search for the third one was underway.

The victim was identified as Lucky Kumar, a resident of Gautampuri.

In another such incident, a 20-year-old man, identified as Toheed, a resident of K Block in New Seelampur, was stabbed to death in a DDA park in northeast Delhi’s New Usmanpur on July 4. Just 18 hours after the incident, police arrested three men and recovered the murder weapon.
