Patna, July 14 (IANS) The Bihar Police has suspended four of its personnel with immediate effect for alleged negligence in the Bunty Yadav murder case in Patna, officials said on Tuesday.

The action was taken by Patna’s Superintendent of Police, Central, Mamta Kalyani, following a departmental inquiry.

Those suspended include Assistant Sub-Inspectors Praveen Kumar Pankaj, Avadhesh Kumar, and Veer Bahadur Singh, along with Home Guard Sudarshan Prasad.

During the period of suspension, all four personnel will remain attached to the New Police Lines, Patna. They have also been directed to submit written explanations to the department within three days.

According to officials, the suspended personnel were part of the Dial-112 emergency response team and a patrolling unit that was present just 100 metres from the spot when Bunty Yadav was allegedly abducted on the night of July 6.

Despite their proximity, they neither became aware of the incident nor intervened in time. The department viewed this as a serious dereliction of duty and initiated disciplinary proceedings.

Police said Bunty Yadav was allegedly abducted by a group of criminals from the Patna Junction area on the night of July 6. CCTV footage of the incident had also surfaced. Family members repeatedly appealed to the police for swift action, but his body was recovered nearly five days later.

Investigators believe the accused had also attempted to conceal the victim’s identity.

The case triggered widespread criticism over the police’s initial response, the effectiveness of patrolling arrangements, and the alleged inaction during the abduction.

Meanwhile, Minister Ram Kripal Yadav and Purnea MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav separately met the victim’s family on Tuesday and demanded strict action against those responsible for the murder.

Minister Yadav alleged that when the victim’s relatives approached Jakkanpur police station, their complaint was not registered and they were turned away on jurisdictional grounds, despite provisions for lodging a Zero FIR and transferring the case to the police station concerned.

Referring to allegations that Bunty Yadav had been raising his voice against a sex racket, Ram Kripal Yadav said such an illegal network was reportedly active in the area for a long time and warranted serious attention.

Member of Parliament Pappu Yadav also visited the victim’s family and extended financial assistance to them while demanding a speedy trial to punish the guilty.

He also urged the government to provide a government job to a family member, compensation of Rs 1 crore and adequate security to the family.
