The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting thunderstorms across the Sunshine Coast everyday for the next seven days.
And as anyone outside will already know, a wet, cold change may not be such a bad thing as temperatures are starting to get decidedly summery.
The BOM’s Sunshine Coast Airport gauge shows residents on the north shore were sizzling this morning with temperatures reaching 34.4 degrees Celsius at 10am.
Interestingly as the wind has now swung around to the north-east temperatures have started to drop and the latest reading – at midday today – was 29.9 degrees.
Meanwhile at Nambour hot westerly winds whipped up a heatwave this morning with gauges showing it was 37.6 degrees at midday.
Luckily the sea-breeze has arrived and it’s now 33.9.
There is a low chance we’ll get a thunderstorm this afternoon, with WillyWeather putting the likelihood of wil weather at 20%.
But the BOM is saying there’s a chance of storms everyday for the next seven.
Saturday looks like the best prospect for some wild weather at this stage with a 70% chance of showers, chance of thunderstorm in the afternoon and a top of 28.
Higgins Storm Chasing mirrors the BOM’s view in that regard with the latest forecast stating: “After a two week break since the last rain and thunderstorm activity a new low pressure trough will begin develop through inland Queensland on Friday.”
“This will produce a lengthy period of unstable conditions to its East with rain and storms expected.
“The system really ramps up the intensity across South East and Central districts over the weekend while also developing further North to possibly include Northern districts on Monday and Tuesday.”
