SOME people get upset about things that don’t really matter, very quickly.
A Brisbane father has copped the wrath of Facebook’s keyboard warriors because he dared suggest that his daughter be allowed to wear shorts like the boys.
Nick Winwood’s push had nothing to do with gender neutrality or blurring the lines between boys and girls.
It was a simple case of practicality.
But according to in Westwide News, people got angry – quite angry.
Someone said what if boys want to wear a skirt, even.
Good grief.
Nick’ simple request was based on the fact that his daughter is very sporty.
In Year 7, she will have to wear a skirt, which is hardly conducive to an active lifestyle.
Surely it’s better to give girls the option of shorts – or a so-called skort – rather than having them risk the embarrassment of flashing their underwear at school.
That’s just plain common sense.
