Grant Hackett’s father says he will officially declare his son missing to police after several hours without contact amid concerns for his welfare.
The Olympian left the Palazzo Versace hotel around 7.30am AEST and has not made contact with his family or friends.
Hackett’s father Nev said a number of his mates, including some of his fellow swimmers, were out searching for him.
“His doctor can’t find him, he hasn’t kept an appointment with his lawyer.”
He said when he had spoken with his son several hours ago, Hackett had told him “I love you” before hanging up when asked where he was.
“I would think that if anybody has seen him to contact media or the police or the Hackett family,” Nev said.
“Grant, let us know where you are, we love you, and we want to help you.”
He said the family were staying strong.
“Now’s the time to be strong and do something positive and get a positive outcome,” Nev said.
