Noida, June 13 (IANS) In a significant crackdown on drug trade, the Greater Noida Police on Saturday arrested two foreign nationals of Nigerian origin with banned narcotics, officials said.

The police also recovered significant amount of drugs from their possession, including 39.27 grams of crystal MDMA (methamphetamine-class drugs), an electronic weighing scale, and also a scooter from transporting it.

The two accused were engaged in drug trade and had set up a dedicated network for supplying banned drugs, including ‘Ganja’ (cannabis), in housing societies and college students.

A case has been registered against the arrested individuals under the NDPS Act and relevant provisions concerning foreign nationals. Further legal proceeding is underway.

The arrested Nigerian nationals were identified as Anthony Chinwuba (alias David) and Amos Musa (alias Lucky). Both are originally from Nigeria and were currently residing in the Greater Noida area.

Police investigation revealed that the accused were active in the National Capital Region for a long time and were part of a network involved in the supply of banned narcotics.

The police apparently, acting on local intelligence and confidential information, swooped down on the drug suppliers and nabbed them from Ecotech-1 area.

According to the police, the police team conducted special checking drive near the cremation ground on June 12.

Acting upon suspicious activity, the police stopped and searched the two individuals.

A total of 39.27 grams of the banned narcotic MDMA/methamphetamine was recovered from them, with the market value of seized contraband estimated at Rs 3 to Rs 4 lakh.

The accused are understood to have shipped the banned drugs from Delhi through illegal channels and deliver it to customers via demands generated on WhatsApp.

Officials said that a thorough investigation is underway regarding the two accused’s criminal network and narcotics supply chain.

The police are also looking to ascertain origin source of narcotics and identify the areas where they were being supplied.
