Ahmedabad, June 21 (IANS) Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi joined Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah in a mass yoga session at Prahladnagar Garden in Ahmedabad on Sunday as part of the celebrations marking the 12th International Yoga Day.

The event was held alongside Yoga Day observances taking place across India and around the world. Sanghavi participated in the collective yoga programme with HM Shah and hundreds of citizens who gathered at the venue to perform various yoga asanas.

The session focused on promoting physical fitness, mental well-being and healthy living through regular yoga practice.

Participants, including public representatives, students, young people and yoga enthusiasts, took part in the exercises during the morning programme.

Sanghavi joined HM Shah and other attendees in the yoga session, which formed part of a wider series of events organised across Gujarat to commemorate the annual observance.

“A Step Towards a Healthy Body, a Peaceful Mind, and a Strong Nation – Yoga,” Sanghavi wrote on his X handle.

The programme reflected the growing participation in Yoga Day activities across the state, where collective yoga sessions were held at multiple locations.

The event was also attended by Ahmedabad Mayor Hitesh Barot, Deputy Mayor Anju Shah, Devang Dani and other civic representatives.

A large number of residents from different age groups participated in the programme, highlighting the continued popularity of yoga as a means of maintaining physical and mental health.

International Yoga Day, observed annually on June 21, promotes awareness of yoga and its role in supporting overall well-being.

This year’s observance was centred on the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, emphasising the importance of yoga in fostering lifelong health and wellness.

The Ahmedabad programme was among the key Yoga Day events held in Gujarat, bringing together elected representatives, civic leaders and members of the public in a collective demonstration of yoga practice.
