Gandhinagar, June 21 (IANS) The first-ever ‘Shri Ram Katha’ organised at Gujarat Lok Bhavan in Gandhinagar commenced on Sunday, marking the beginning of a week-long religious and cultural programme that will continue until June 28.

The event, held under the guidance of Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, brought together senior political leaders, officials and a large gathering of citizens.

The inaugural day featured renowned storyteller Acharya Kuldeep Maharaj, who spoke on the significance of Ram Katha, its philosophical background, and the ideals embodied in the life of Lord Shri Ram.

Governor Acharya Devvrat said that the life of Shri Ram is not confined to devotion alone but represents an “art of living”.

“The Ramayana offers lessons on ideal roles within society. Lord Ram is an ideal son, brother, husband and ruler devoted to public welfare,” he emphasised.

Governor Devvrat added that the Katha should not only be heard but also internalised in daily life, stating that “doing so helps in reducing human suffering and supports personal development”.

He urged citizens present at the venue to draw inspiration from the narrative for character building and ethical living.

The Governor also expressed gratitude towards Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel for his presence at the programme and praised his approach to public service. “Despite a demanding schedule, the Chief Minister remains actively engaged with citizens,” he noted.

Referring to recent instances, he mentioned that the Chief Minister had travelled by train, spent a night at a village school, and shared a meal at the home of a Scheduled Caste (SC) family, describing these actions as “examples of simplicity and public connect”.

Welcoming Acharya Kuldeep Maharaj, the Governor appreciated his efforts, along with his family, in promoting Indian cultural and Vedic traditions.

He said the ongoing Katha reflects these values and would continue daily until June 28, describing it as a continuous “nectar-like” experience for attendees.

Among those present were Gujarat State Yog Board Chairman Sheeshpal Rajput, MLA Babu Patel, former minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, Vice-Chancellor of Gujarat Vidyapith, Harshad Patel, senior administrative officials, members of the Lok Bhavan administration, and a large number of citizens who attended the discourse.
