Ahmedabad, May 11 (IANS) The Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch has arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly sending a threatening email warning of bomb blasts at the GUJSAIL facility at the city airport and several schools across Ahmedabad, officials said on Monday.
According to police, the email was received on March 25 on the official email account of the Director of GUJSAIL.
It triggered immediate concern among authorities as it allegedly contained threats of explosions and references to senior political leaders.
The content of the email read in Hindi: “Gujcel blast Eid ka tofa Modi and Shah I will kill you. Bomb blast in all schools, mera bhai Saurab Biswas ko rihae karo, wait and watch all bomb blasts (GUJSAIL blast, Eid gift). Modi and Shah, I will kill you. Bomb blasts in all schools. Release my brother, Saurab Biswas. Wait and watch, all will be bomb blasts.”
Following a complaint lodged by a GUJSAIL employee, a case was registered, and an investigation was initiated under the instructions of Police Commissioner G.S. Malik and the guidance of senior officers of the crime branch.
A technical analysis traced the email to the address bhavesh4518@gmail.com.
Acting on this lead, Cyber Crime Inspector M.H. Bhetariya and his team examined digital records and, with the assistance of human intelligence inputs, identified the user’s location within Ahmedabad.
Further investigation led to the detention of Bhavesh Patel (40), a resident of the Sardarnagar area of the city.
Officials said his mobile phone contained evidence linked to the email, including details of the account used to send the message.
Forensic examination also led to the recovery of material from deleted folders. He was subsequently taken into custody and remanded for further interrogation.
Police said Patel is educated up to the B.Com level and is engaged in construction-related business activities.
”He has also been associated with event management work linked to airport-related operations through business connections,” an official said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cyber Crime) Lavina Sinha said the cyber crime unit carried out an extensive digital investigation before tracing the accused.
“Electronic devices and communication records seized during the probe are being analysed to establish the complete chain of events,” she said.
Investigators are now examining the motive behind the offence, whether any individual assisted him, and whether there is any connection with any terrorist organisation or group involved in unlawful or disruptive activities.
Police custody remand has been obtained for further questioning on these aspects.
Authorities further noted that the email contained a demand for the release of an individual named Saurab Biswas from West Bengal, who had earlier been arrested in a separate case involving threatening emails across the country.
Given that the threat referred to schools, airport premises, and potential bomb blasts, police said precautionary security measures were taken at sensitive locations across the city.
Further investigation is ongoing, and officials reiterated that strict action will be taken against anyone who attempts to create panic or issue threats on digital platforms.
