Gujarat Waqf Board urges completion of UMEED portal registration by May 26

Gandhinagar, May 20 (IANS) The Gujarat State Waqf Board has appealed to all ‘mutawallis (administrators)’, trustees, Waqf institutions and stakeholders across the state to complete mandatory registration on the ‘UMEED (Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development) Portal’ by May 26, warning that no further extension will be granted under the prevailing legal framework.

The Board has also activated a dedicated helpline for technical and procedural assistance during the registration process.

The appeal comes as part of a nationwide compliance drive under the UMEED digital governance framework introduced by the Ministry of Minority Affairs to centralise and digitise Waqf property records.

The portal was launched on June 6 last year, as a single national database to record details of Waqf properties, including ownership, income, documentation and administrative records, with the objective of improving transparency, accountability and legal protection of Waqf assets.

According to officials, the UMEED platform functions as a unified system for verification, geo-tagging, monitoring and digitised management of Waqf properties, and is intended to replace fragmented record-keeping systems previously maintained at state and local levels.

The Ministry has also introduced additional modules on the portal, including survey and lease management functions, to strengthen property documentation and administrative oversight.

The Gujarat State Waqf Board stated that the portal is not merely a registration facility but a structural reform in Waqf governance, designed to ensure long-term protection of properties and reduce disputes arising from incomplete or unverified records.

It added that consolidation of data on a single platform would enable more efficient administration and help address irregularities in property management.

The Board noted that under the framework of the UMEED Act, a fixed time window had been provided for uploading existing Waqf property details, and compliance timelines had already been set at the national level for digitisation of records.

It reiterated that institutions failing to complete registration within the prescribed period may face administrative and legal complications, and would be solely responsible for any consequences arising from non-compliance.

Officials further stated that a significant number of Waqf institutions in the state have yet to complete registration despite repeated advisories.

The Board has, therefore, urged mutawallis, trustees and administrators to ensure that all required documents are uploaded without delay and that incomplete applications are avoided.
