Haryana CM backs signing of pact on Kishau Dam project​

New Delhi, May 13 (IANS) Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday raised common issues with neighbouring states and matters concerning water resources, including the Kishau Dam project, in the presence of his Rajasthan counterpart, Bhajan Lal Sharma, and Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Paatil.​

At the meeting, Chief Minister Saini emphasised the need to expedite the Kishau Dam project and called for the neighbouring states to sign a memorandum of understanding at the earliest.​

Union Minister Patil directed his office to organise a meeting at the earliest involving officials from Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan regarding the dam.​

He instructed that decisions on water sharing and electricity generation from the dam be finalised promptly.​

Thereafter, a meeting of the Chief Ministers should be convened to complete the formalities related to the memorandum of understanding.​

Chief Minister Saini said the dam project is highly important for all states, as it will provide a substantial amount of water, which is essential for everyone.​

He said the project would benefit all the participating states.​

Union Minister Patil also directed officials of his department to initiate action on a priority basis.​

At the meeting, Chief Minister Saini also discussed bringing water from the Upper Ganga Canal in Uttar Pradesh to Faridabad and Palwal districts.​

He requested the intervention of Union Minister Patil to expedite the implementation of the scheme.​

The meeting also included discussions on the Rs 2,000 crore project related to supplying water from the Munak Canal to Gurugram and Nuh districts.​

In this regard, the Union Minister assured all possible assistance for the project.​

Discussions were also held on issues related to Rajasthan concerning the Regional Rapid Transit System project.​

The issue of waterlogging in Najafgarh was also discussed.​
