India’s High Commissioner to Australia Nagesh Singh met Andrew Hastie MP, Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives and Shadow Minister for Industry and Sovereign Capability, to discuss strengthening the Australia–India partnership.
According to the High Commission of India in Canberra, the meeting on September 7 provided an opportunity to exchange views on further developing bilateral relations and identifying areas for greater cooperation.
The meeting was part of continuing diplomatic engagement between India and Australia as both countries work to expand their strategic and economic partnership.
Hastie is the Federal Member for Canning and serves as Shadow Minister for Industry and Sovereign Capability. His current parliamentary responsibilities also include serving as Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives, according to the Australian Government Directory and the Liberal Party of Australia.
The engagement followed recent high-level contacts between the two countries and came amid efforts to translate the expanding Australia–India relationship into greater practical cooperation.
