New Delhi, June 24 (IANS) Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, will chair the 10th apex-level meeting of the Narco-Coordination Centre (NCORD) on Friday, June 26 at Vigyan Bhawan here, an official statement said.

The meeting, organised by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), aims to further strengthen the government’s efforts in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a drug-free India.

It will bring together stakeholders from 44 Union ministries and departments, along with 108 representatives from state governments and drug law enforcement agencies in a hybrid format.

On the occasion, HM Shah will release the ‘Vision Document on Narcotics Control (2026-2029)’, prepared through extensive consultations with Union government departments, enforcement agencies and other stakeholders.

The document outlines a comprehensive road map addressing demand reduction, supply reduction and harm reduction aspects of narcotics control.

The road map envisages a network-centric enforcement approach and includes measures to tackle synthetic drugs, darknet-enabled trafficking, prevention of drug abuse among youth, and expansion of treatment and rehabilitation facilities, among other steps to be implemented over the next three years.

The document delineates responsibilities, timelines and measurable targets for stakeholders while integrating enforcement, rehabilitation, public awareness, capacity building and inter-agency coordination. It is expected to serve as a guiding framework for policy formulation and implementation to curb drug trafficking and abuse.

HM Shah will also release the NCB Annual Report 2025 and inaugurate newly built NCB zonal offices in Jammu and Guwahati. In addition, the Drug Disposal Fortnight Campaign will be launched, under which about 2,09,500 kg of narcotics worth ₹6,000 crore are expected to be destroyed across the country in accordance with legal provisions.

The meeting will provide a platform to review and assess ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse. It will also deliberate on key challenges and strategies for strengthening narcotics control over the next three years.

The deliberations are expected to reinforce the government’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy against drug trafficking, as emphasised by the Prime Minister.
