‘House of cards collapsing’: NDA leaders on 20 Trinamool MPs writing to LS Speaker

New Delhi, June 9 (IANS) Amid reports that around 20 rebel Trinamool Congress MPs have extended support to the NDA government, leaders across the ruling alliance have launched a sharp attack on the party, alleging a deep internal crisis and lack of democracy within the West Bengal-based outfit.

Reacting to the development, Rajya Sabha MP and JD(U) National Working President Sanjay Kumar Jha said the situation in the Trinamool reflected a breakdown of internal order. He said, “Booth capturing was something that the TMC was accused of doing, but now everything is coming out openly. You can see how the situation has changed, like a house of cards collapsing. The same condition exists there because, in my view, there is no internal democracy within that party…”

Bihar Minister Dilip Kumar Jaiswal also targeted the Trinamool, alleging growing unrest within the party. Speaking to IANS, he said, “There is turmoil within the TMC. The way the TMC has allegedly indulged in hooliganism in West Bengal is now having an impact, and as a result, many people within the party are turning against it.”

JD(U) National Spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan claimed internal dissent had reached senior levels of the party.

“Actually, the way things have been happening, whether it is Kakoli Ghosh or several other senior leaders, many have reportedly expressed their lack of confidence in Mamata Banerjee’s leadership. A separate TMC faction is also said to have met Bhupender Yadav. In Delhi, despite Mamata Banerjee’s presence, these MPs did not consider it appropriate to meet her,” he said.

BJP leader Yamini Sharma, meanwhile, said the issue reflected dissatisfaction within the opposition ranks, adding, “Regarding the resignations or internal fights within TMC, it is their internal matter. However, it is very clear and evident that even TMC MLAs and MPs are also fed up with the anti-national, anti-democratic, anti-Hindu, and anti-people policies of the TMC and its administration over the last two decades…”

BJP leader T.R. Sriniwas further claimed that a breakaway faction was taking shape within the party.

“Statement of Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar of TMC that she was not allowed to work for her constituency and her people, and Mamata Didi has taken West Bengal 40 years back. This is the cry of an MP, who is a very senior MP from TMC. This is what is happening with other MPs who are part of the breakaway faction,” Sriniwas said.

“Approximately 20 MPs have given their consent to form a breakaway faction, and it seems they have approached the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Om Birla, to be recognised as a separate entity and to extend their unconditional support to the NDA,” he added.

The political controversy intensified after senior Trinamool MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar reportedly claimed that nearly 20 Lok Sabha MPs had decided to support the NDA and conveyed their position to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, a move that is being seen as a possible split in the party’s parliamentary unit.

The development comes shortly after the Trinamool faced internal turbulence in the West Bengal Assembly, where 58 of its 80 MLAs reportedly defied the party high command’s decision to appoint veteran leader Sovandeb Chattopadhyay as Leader of the Opposition and instead elected expelled MLA Ritabrata Banerjee to the post, signalling widening cracks within the organisation.
