Bhopal, June 6 (IANS) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued fresh warnings for moderate to light thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, squall, hail, and strong gusty winds across several parts of Madhya Pradesh on June 6-7, 2026.

The weather activity is expected to intensify during the evening and night hours as the Southwest Monsoon continues its active phase over the state.

According to the latest bulletin, moderate thundersorms accompanied by lightning and hail, with wind speeds gusting up to 70 kmph, are likely over Vidisha, Raisen (including Bhimbetka and Sanchi), Narmadapuram (Pachmarhi), Harda, Khandwa (Omkareshwar), and Shahdol.

Light thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and winds up to 50 kmph are forecast for Sheopur (Kuno National Park), Dewas, Sehore, Morena, Rajgarh, Ujjain (Mahakaleshwar), Shivpuri, Agar, Shajapur, Indore, Khargone, Betul, Chhindwara, Seoni, Bhopal (Bairagarh), Narsinghpur, Sagar, Satna (Chitrakoot), Maihar, Rewa, Mauganj, Sidhi, and Singrauli districts.

In the past 24 hours, rainfall was recorded at isolated places in Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Rewa, Shahdol, and Sagar divisions. Bhopal city received 22.8 mm of rain, while other notable amounts included Sanwer (17 mm), Badnawar (12.2 mm), and Ratlam (12 mm).

Gusty winds were also observed, with Sehore recording 48 kmph, Agar 44 kmph, and Satna 56 kmph.

Maximum temperatures dropped markedly in several divisions and remained below normal in many areas, while minimum temperatures showed mixed trends.

The active weather is being driven by multiple cyclonic circulations over northwest and northeast Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Punjab, along with associated troughs extending across central India.

The Southwest Monsoon has advanced further, covering significant parts of the country, with conditions remaining favourable for additional progress in the coming days.

The stormy conditions are likely to continue over the next few days, with a gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 2-4 degrees Celsius expected thereafter.

People have been advised to monitor official updates from the Meteorological Centre, Bhopal, for the latest developments.

The IMD has attributed the unsettled weather to three active cyclonic circulations affecting the region, along with the advancing Southwest Monsoon and the influence of a Western Disturbance over northwest Uttar Pradesh.

A trough extending across Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and south Odisha is further enhancing rainfall activity.

The Northern Limit of the Monsoon has already progressed significantly, with conditions remaining favourable for further advancement in the coming days.

The IMD has advised residents to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid open fields, trees, and water bodies, and secure loose objects.

Farmers have been urged to postpone harvesting, threshing, and drying operations, ensure proper field drainage, and protect standing crops and farm structures from strong winds. Livestock should be kept in safe shelters.
