Jammu, June 16 (IANS) The Army’s Udhampur-headquartered Northern Command said on Tuesday that the force is working in complete coordination with the people of Jammu and Kashmir to eradicate the drug menace from the union territory.

The Northern Command said on its official X page, “Viksit aur Nashamukt Jammu &Kashmir: “#NorthernCommand works in sync with the people of J&K to eradicate drug menace through awareness, outreach and community engagements during the 100 days #NashaMuktiAbhiyan across the Union Territory.”

The ‘Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan’ (Drug-Free Jammu and Kashmir) has recorded massive achievements through an extensive 100-day campaign, reaching over one crore citizens and dismantling illicit drug networks across the Union Territory.

Over 16.37 lakh awareness events spanning schools, villages, and Panchayats, with participation exceeding one crore people, were held. A total of 7,000 women’s committees were formed to drive grassroots community engagement and localised vigilance.

Twenty senior officers were appointed as District Mentors to oversee awareness.

Over 850 FIRs have been registered under the NDPS Act, leading to the arrests of more than 900 drug peddlers and smugglers.

Targeting of narco palaces and syndicates has resulted in attaching immovable and movable properties worth over Rs 48 crore.

Border Surveillance was upgraded as security grids used AI-based surveillance and night-vision devices to intercept drone-dropped narcotics.

Rehabilitation and Youth Reclamation through counselling transitioned focus from arrests to rehabilitation, successfully reclaiming thousands of youth from addiction.

Hotspots were identified and actively intervened in 49 high-risk “drug hotspots” operations across the region.

Nasha Mukt J&K Portal was launched to improve public access to de-addiction courses, counselling, and peer support systems.

The 100-day-long Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyaan was inaugurated on April 6 by Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha. He said cancellation of passport, driving licence, Aadhaar card and cancellation of registration certificates of vehicles seized during the anti-drug campaign were additional punitive steps being taken to eradicate the drug menace.
