Perth, October 8 (Australia India News Newsdesk)
Indian defence technology and engineering expertise took centrestage at Land Forces 2026 in Perth, where Indian organisations presented indigenous equipment and explored opportunities for closer cooperation with Australian industry and government representatives.
Held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre from October 6 to 8, the biennial exhibition provided a platform for India to showcase its defence manufacturing capabilities and discuss potential partnerships in engineering, technology and industrial development.
According to updates published by the Consulate General of India in Perth on its official social media accounts, the India Pavilion was inaugurated by Consul General Kajari Biswas and Shantanu Roy, Chairman and Managing Director of BEML Ltd.
Following the inauguration, Biswas interacted with officials from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and examined the advanced technologies displayed at the pavilion, the consulate reported.
The pavilion also received senior Australian government representatives, who engaged with Indian officials and reviewed the technologies on display. The discussions explored possibilities for future cooperation between the two countries, according to the consulate.
On the third day of the exhibition, Roy welcomed Amber-Jade Sanderson, Western Australia’s Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation, Manufacturing, Skills and TAFE, who also serves as Minister Assisting the Minister for Defence Industries.
During the engagement, Roy outlined BEML’s operations across defence, rail and metro systems, mining and construction. He also highlighted the company’s indigenous engineering capabilities, expanding export portfolio and growing international presence.
The consulate identified three products showcased during the engagement: the ARJUN ARV, the Vande Bharat Sleeper trainset and the BRS-21 electric rope shovel. The display demonstrated India’s engineering and manufacturing expertise across defence, transport and industrial equipment.
Land Forces 2026 brought together representatives from industry, government, academia and technology organisations to discuss developments in land-based defence capabilities. Organised in collaboration with the Australian Army, the exhibition provided Indian organisations with an opportunity to present their technologies and establish contacts with Australian stakeholders.
The engagements at the India Pavilion highlighted potential areas for closer Australia–India cooperation in defence technology, engineering and manufacturing.
