Ram Nath Kovind has been nominated by the Bhartiya Janata Party as their nominee for the Presidential elections. The announcement was made on Monday afternoon by BJP national president Amit Shah as he announced the 71-year-old Dalit leader will be nominated to the country’s top post.
A day after his name was announced as the NDA’s pick for the upcoming presidential election, Ram Nath Kovind resigned as Bihar Governor. West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi was given additional charge of Bihar, news agency ANI reported on Tuesday.
The announcement was met with surprise as Kovind is a low-key politician who served as the government counsel in the past.
